Week 12

We were introduced to graphics and titles and how to create them to put onto our final video with Avid when we had finished editing our videos.

Week 11

We began to use the footage we should have started to shoot for our 1 minute videos today to edit on Avid. I managed to get almost all of my video edited in this session although it did take the full 4 hours!

Week 10

This week was the second week of editing with Avid. Still very difficult but have managed to pick up how to add videos to a timeline and cut and split.

Week 9

This was the first week of editing with Gary. We were introduced to Avid for the first time and taught some basic basic techniques. We were told however that it is industry standard and would take a while to pick up!

Week 7

Lighting was the focus this week where we learnt about the 3 point lighting and dramatic lighting. We then in groups set up a dramatic lighting scene with the 3 point lighting technique.

Week 6

This week we focused on sound and how to set up microphones for different shows. We did lots of different activities such as how to set up the microphones and the type of microphones for things like Mrs Browns Boys and the Radio 1 festival.

Week 5

Today we looked at a selection of clips from films such as se7en and learnt about how the shots are set up and the sound. The cinematography was the main part that we focused on and how the dramatic effects are created.

Week 4

This was our second week with Craig where we were introduced to the DSLR Cameras which are used for photography. We had an exercise which was to go out and take 6 photos of different shot types to create a story. I chose to take photos of a student heading to the canteen and eating some soup.

Week 3

This week we learnt about directing a scene. We were given a script and had to create a scene and a idea for a short film based around this script. It was dialogue between what appeared to be a father and son so in our group we created a short thriller set in a mental hospital which we then presented to the class.

Week 2

Today we learned how to set up the tripods and attach the £6000 cameras. We then went out and practiced filming each other by mainly setting up the frame of the shot and things such as the correct white balance, how to focus on the subject properly and how to frame a shot.

Week 1

Today was the first lecture with Gary where we were introduced to the module and were shown some past work. This included the 1 minute videos that we would later be producing.
